I am not one to write reviews but my experience with Downeast accounting was not a good one. I am self employed. I have one source of income and expense write offs. I got all my paperwork together and added up all the numbers that needed to be put together for my taxes. I dropped off everything needed by the beginning of April. Understanding that I was cutting it close, I asked if they had time to get my taxes done before the 15th. They said yes at first but then I called them on the 15th to see if they were completed and when I finally got through they said they would file an extension and call me back in a couple weeks when it was done. I had no problem with that since I did drop everything off 2 weeks prior and I understand it’s a busy time of year for them. What I did have a problem with was the multiple unanswered phone calls and voicemails I left. When I did get through I was told one time that Scott (who was doing my taxes) was on vacation and they would let him know I called when he got back in a couple weeks. Later again when I finally got through. I was told that they would be done by the end of the week or beginning of next week and they would call me when done. Countless times I called and left voicemails with no response. My taxes were completed by the middle of September when they were dropped off the beginning of April. They filed an extension. I had never done that before and didn’t realize the IRS charges fees until the taxes are completed. I paid $300 to Downeast accounting to complete my taxes and an extra $180 to the IRS because of Downeast taking 5 month to complete my taxes. I also called Downeast when I received the IRS statement amount and left a voicemail with no response. If they were honest and told me they did not have time I would have went somewhere else.

I have been going to Scott for over ten years. Always courteous and efficient and timely. Would highly recommend him.
