A huge Thank you to Family First for helping me navigate the process of Long -term care for my 91-year-old aunt. As an only child, working full-time which included traveling, married, I was overwhelmed and stressed. I love my aunt so much, but I realize she needed additional care that I could not afford to give, having lost her husband and son, I was extremely concerned about our future until the attentive Case Managers, especially Laurie Clark assured me that guidance and support during the process was there to help me along the way. I highly recommend their legal services. it was worth the investment the processing time was reduced to months. They understood my situation with a sense of urgency. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you.

I cannot thank the Family First Firm enough for their outstanding support and guidance through what could have been a very overwhelming process. From the very beginning, they helped me navigate the complex steps needed to make my loved one Medicaid compliant—and thanks to their expertise, we were able to get approved and enrolled in Medicaid in what felt like no time at all. Rose B., Lynouse M., and Attorney Adam R. were truly incredible every step of the way. They were not only professional and knowledgeable, but also warm, friendly, and genuinely invested in making sure I was on the right path. Their quick responses and willingness to be available at a moment’s notice made all the difference. They also assisted in creating a Lady Bird Deed, which was handled with the same level of efficiency and care. Every detail was explained clearly, and I felt confident and supported throughout the entire process. Even the receptionist made a lasting impression—always greeting me warmly as I walked in and maintaining a professional, respectful demeanor that immediately put me at ease. The entire office environment felt welcoming and supportive. The cost of their services was worth every single penny for the peace of mind, clarity, and successful outcome they provided. If you’re looking for a firm that treats you like family and goes above and beyond to help, I highly recommend Family First Firm. I’m beyond grateful for their help!

My first meeting with a consultant went well, they seemed confident, professional and well educated. When it came time to formally sign up and have the first meeting with the lawyer the entire plan changed. Still professionally done and educated, however that lawyer explained he was only there for 2 more weeks and we could get all documents complete by then, there was a 30 day deadline anyhow. I sent the manager every document requested immediately and waited for next steps. I had to reach out in order to check in, my emails with documents attached went unread and I had to forward them again to have them at the top of their inbox. Repeatedly, I had to check in and was told there was confusion and they weren't able to figure out how to proceed. When I asked to speak to the new lawyer, he listened to my negative feedback and then reviewed the case while on the phone and still reiterated that they were figuring it out. He was not prepared at all. This was already past the government deadline. When given a document to sign, names were all wrong, proving that as a consumer we are paying thousands for documents that they copy and paste different names and numbers on. Flash forward additional weeks, I'm again having to reach out to see if anything is considered finished and do not have a copy of the final documents sent, even though I'm told the case is closed on their end. Overall, this was an extremely disappointing, stressful experience. For a specialty law firm they fell way below expectations and could not reach the deadlines they quoted.

Family First Firm accomplished getting my dad approved for Medicaid but that was just the beginning of this long and complicated process.  It took a year for the approval and many complications along the way.  What I didn't know at the beginning was the amount of work that would be required from me to get this process to the finish line and when I thought I'd provided everything needed I'd receive a new set of requests.   I was given short notice more than once to produce documents and if they weren't received by the deadline the case would be closed.  In one case I was required to drive over an hour with COVID and wait for over an hour at a bank for the documents being requested only to be told they didn't have access to what was being requested.  Finally the approval arrived in December 2024.  The number or hours my dad was awarded wasn't enough to adequately cover the care he needs so I had to supplement that with a private caregiver.  It took until April 2025, 15 months into the process before the first Medicaid caregiver appeared.  In the course of the last two months two caregiver agencies have quit because they can't find staff.  Numerous times caregivers have not arrived leaving my dad without care.  In two months I'm now on my third caregiver agency.  The new twist is they refuse to work in the early evening when my dad needs help getting to bed.  Due to that, I've had to hire private caregivers to fill the void which is money out of my pocket. Once approved I was on my own to navigate the complexities of the Medicaid system and in my case I'm still paying a large amount out of pocket.  Another option was to put my dad in a Medicaid approved facility.  We toured several on the list and they were a long distance from my elderly mother and it would have been difficult for her to get there.  If my mom is separated from my dad for more than a few hours he becomes upset and asks where she is so he would most likely go downhill quickly in a facility without my mother.  We were also disturbed by the appearance and odor of the facilities we visited.  Hence, the only option is to keep my dad with home care.  Please be aware if anyone is considering home care to keep their loved one out of a facility they will most likely encounter what I did. For my dad's situation, being approved for Medicaid didn't mean he is receiving all of his care free.  His care is being partially paid for and the family must pay the rest so one should decide if the return on investment makes sense for their situation.  This process must be renewed annually and I was advised that Family First Firm will assist each year with that.  Family First Firm will get the job done within the guidelines of the Medicaid laws.  I believe this would have been extremely difficult for me to navigate on my own as it was difficult enough for them and they are experienced with this.  They even advised me how frustrated they were with my case due to all the rejections and requests for additional information.  Every case is different and I can only speak for my own but go into the process being educated that it could require a lot of work on the client's part and you may still be responsible to pay for a portion of care out of your pocket.
