Disappointed by the Consultation Policy Herrmann Murphy came recommended, and while the staff was friendly enough over the phone, I was disappointed by their consultation policy. They charge $600 upfront just for a consultation — without any commitment to actually take the case. In other words, I’d be paying a significant amount simply for the possibility of receiving legal advice, and still walk away needing to find another attorney. $600 is well above what many firms charge, especially for a consultation that isn’t guaranteed to turn into representation. Most attorneys offer consultations ranging from $250 to $400, and some even lower, depending on the case and location. Ultimately, I chose not to move forward, and I would advise others to clarify exactly what they’re getting before agreeing to such a high, non-refundable fee.
