I want to express my deepest gratitude to the team at Kuck/Baxter for their extraordinary work, but especially to Dustin Baxter. After a joyful vacation with my daughter in Orlando, Florida, our lives changed overnight. We noticed unexplained bruises on her body and rushed to the doctor—only to receive the devastating diagnosis of myeloid leukemia. The illness was advancing at an incredible pace. Within five days of the first symptom, her platelet and hemoglobin levels had dropped to dangerous levels. Following medical advice, we boarded an emergency flight to Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. We couldn’t wait for her scheduled appointment—the leukemia was too aggressive. We ran straight to the ER. Her treatment plan would span five years, and while her life was the priority, I was also deeply concerned about how we could remain legally in the United States once her visa expired. I’ve been a single father to my daughter since she was one year old.
