As a father fighting for custody, the system is not very kind. Luckily for me, Laken understood this, and gave me the best representation I could have asked for. She is straightforward about everything in the process, and guided me the entire way. About Laken Laken Wise was the lawyer that represented my for my divorce in 2021. It was, as they often are, quite ugly. I had been through two other attorneys. The first was ineffective. The second was inflammatory and only made things worse and farther from a solution. At that time Laken was an associate for lawyer #2. She had worked with me on several occasions and seemed to have a plan to an end, something I never felt was coming from the primary attorney. Anyway, Laken had left my primary to break out on her own. When I found out I moved to her for representation. She brought the divorce to a rapid conclusion with what was probably a fair solution for both parties. No instigation or inflammation. My ex left me the weekend I retired. Yeah, she was a real beaut alright. About a year and a half following the divorce I realized I couldn’t continue my lifestyle without additional income. I went back to work, out of necessity. When she caught wind of it she filed for modification of support/alimony. I was served and had to face a court appearance. My ex really didn’t need any additional income. Her expenses were far less than mine and after the divorce she had greater net worth than I. I don’t think I have the words to explain how upset, trapped and enslaved I felt. Back into the scene came Laken. Now, very busy with her new practice, and young baby in diapers, and a new baby on the way, I wondered if she had it within her to give me the best representation and preparation. She explained the relevant law of the situation and emailed a list of what I needed to gather for the upcoming trial. She had a plan of attack and when we appeared in court she cut through my ex like a hot knife through butter. My ex’s attorney had apparently not given a fraction of the preparation to the case that Laken had. I almost felt sorry for my ex (not really). My ex lost, got no new income, and had to pay most of my attorney fees. There was another component to the case. That of the execution of paperwork for the sale of a boat that was marital property. My ex had ignored and avoided doing what was necessary to be done for the title transfer, even though she had received her half of the payment from the sale of the boat. She ignored several court orders. The Magistrate sentenced her to a 5 day all expense paid vacation in county jail if she did not facilitate the title transfer within 45 days. It would almost be worth giving back what was paid for the boat to see her behind bars. She finally acquiesced (darn it). The excellent outcome was solely the result of the expertise of my lawyer, Laken Wise. Thank you, Laken.
