If you come from a marginalized identity, don’t expect Donna to advocate for you—or even pretend to understand your struggles with bias. In our case, she sided with opposing counsel instead of fighting for us. During trial, Donna told us the judge had already made up his mind and that it was no use to continue. The other parent was never cross-examined, nor was his girlfriend—who had neutered her dog on her dining room table with our children present. She was his witness, yet never took the stand, and Donna never pressed the issue. We spent nearly $20,000 for nothing. A month later, we discovered Donna had also represented the other parent’s girlfriend—the very witness she should have cross-examined but of course couldn’t. This blatant conflict of interest was never disclosed. Had we known, we would have fired her immediately. Donna failed to advocate, betrayed her client, and abandoned a transgender child who needed protection. Everything negative you fear about lawyers who take money without integrity applies here.

A local friend (and Iowa Law School grad) recommended Donna based on the experiences of a friend in the Des Moines area. That friend had gone through a difficult divorce and was represented by Donna. In the initial interview, Donna explained the divorce process and the expected timing. We were initially interested in hiring a bulldog who would tear apart the narcissistic soon-to-be ex, who was also an attorney, but that is not Donna’s style. She is patient and thorough, always considering the end goal when contemplating the best strategy. Successful motions were filed regarding temporary matters such as physical custody and child support. The discovery motion before the trial led the Respondent to agree to a reasonable stipulation to avoid a trial (and thus avoid responding to the discovery motion). Post-trial, Donna prepared additional Show Cause (contempt) efforts to ensure the Respondent did what was agreed upon in the Stipulation. While the evidence in those efforts was overwhelming, with Donna’s help, we prevailed. Donna is an excellent communicator, providing regular updates on the next steps. We highly recommend Donna for your family law needs.

Donna helped me get through my divorce with ease! She is very personable and accommodating. This was my first divorce and the whole thing took me off guard. Donna was there to answer all my questions and concerns. Her organizational skills are impeccable and that played a huge part in the mediation. In the beginning I was on the losing side, but when everything wrapped up I had the better lawyer felt like a winner. I’m looking forward to brighter days ahead. I owe it to Donna and her team! Donna was great to work with for our re-adoption of our daughter. We did everything via email, phone or online and she was very responsive. She prepared us well for the court hearing and it went as expected. The overall process went smoothly and I would recommend her to other adoptive families! I don’t know how she compares with her rate for services, we went to Donna’s agency based on a recommendation of another attorney we respect and have worked with. I would say there was definitely value for the money we paid for Donna’s services.
