💫 As a proud Immigrant, I am absolutely BIASED!! Complaints about nonprofit & humanitarian organizations in my opinion are the result of the freedoms over enjoyed by the very people that have availed themselves of these services only to wag a disrespectfully, unappreciative finger when the slightest issue arises. I would ask that we as a whole do some soul searching as to why the anonymity of a keyboard has miraculously turned us into know-it-all professional CRITICS. This is the handbook required to try to responsibly aid in serving and often correcting mistakes made by the people who walk into places like Dorcas International...Most people can't properly figure out an IKEA book shelf handbook. Let's try to exercise the Kinder, Rational & if possible Grateful parts of ourselves and not complain about people who do this work simply out of Patriotic Duty and ultimately the goodness of their Spirit...

This place is a disaster! I have my deaf nephew whom I’ve been trying to get immigration aid for since December 2023. Every time I called, I was told by their secretary that they couldn’t accommodate to have a deaf interpreter. When I couldn’t get an appointment with them, I decided to elsewhere in March of this year. I want to note, the cost to file a petition for asylum is between $4,500 to $5,000. Due to the delays from Dorcas International failing to provide an appointment, he unfortunately missed his deadline; his application got denied by USCIS. Now, on Tuesday April 23, 2024, I reached out to Dorcas International again, because my nephew now has additional immigrant issues, due to their unprofessionalism. I was told by the receptionist that free consultation was offered, between 9am to 1pm and also from 1pm to 4pm. Today, Thursday April 25, 2024, I arrived at Dorcas International bright and early at 9am. I was advised upon arrival, by the secretary, to return at 1pm because they were only available between 1pm to 4pm on this specific date. I returned at 2:17pm. The receptionist took down my information and asked me to wait in the waiting room. Now, at 3:45 pm I asked for a status update on the wait time. I was told that the only people who were being seen were Spanish-speaking. I returned to my seat and continued waiting. Finally, at 4pm, I walked up and told the receptionist that I had to go. It was then, at this time, after servicing 7 people who came after me, was I approached by Danlette Norris, one of the representatives. After a ridiculous explanation from her as to why I was skipped, I decided to leave. According to Danlette Norris, she mispronounced my name when she previously called out for me. No other efforts were made. This was a very unacceptable and disappointing encounter with Dorcas International. I would like someone to follow up on this matter and reach out to me to rectify this issue immediately. Best, Murat R.

I attended a training to be a mentor through Dorcas. While I won't be able to serve as a mentor for a few months, the training was excellent and their programs seem to be working very well. I hope they continue to serve the great immigrants of RI in the future years.
