We hired Emily in fall of 2023, we have been so busy with the case and life that I just did not have the time to deal with her lack of work & legal malpractice. She took $7,500 retainer and claimed to have gone through it in 3 weeks, with just entering the notice of appearance, "reviewing" the case & emails repeating items we had already discussed in person, not even filing the motion for hearing that we had requested. Emily was confusing us with another customer, so we might have been double billed, but she did not take the time to review and clarify. Save your time and money, attorneys like her make you look bad because you fire them for not doing what you hired them to do and have to find another one to take the case so it looks like the client is the issue, very frustrating - just don't hire her.

Emily Smoak is a rare treasure in the legal community and I’m fortunate to live where her unparalleled service and support is available. I first met her as one of my favorite customers, as I provided tech support for some of her office equipment, then later I retained her as my attorney, to help bring a long difficult family law case to the finish line. During the period before retaining her, she was a wonderful “reality check” on how my case was going, without any attempt to bring me over as a client, just good honest feedback without bias… she is a person of integrity, through and through. Once my legal situation seemed to reach an impasse, I retained Emily. Something she always said, was a good attorney will always try and work with opposing counsel to find workable options… and she does exactly that. She is very personable and approachable, she is very easy to talk to, and is very honest… even with you, the client. She will tell you… to get something, you always need to expect to give something. She advises from a place of experience and does so with compassion, she is a genuinely good human who cares about helping you achieve your goals. She will be very real with you about what you have on the table… and what you don’t. Strong Tenacious. Strategic. Those aren’t just words, they define her. When my legal battle neared the end, she suggested a wonderful mediator. She had done such wonderful work with opposing counsel that final mediation went so smoothly that it was almost surreal. It was unexpectedly peaceful and outcome fair for all. It put a years long difficult battle to rest, once and for all. I have Emily to thank for restoring peace and harmony in my life… she is a treasure.

I strongly advise against hiring Emily Smoak as legal counsel. My experience was nothing short of a disaster. Throughout the case, Ms. Smoak relied on unfounded accusations rather than solid legal arguments, demonstrating a complete lack of preparation for the hearing. During the proceedings, when the commissioner instructed her to draft the judgment on-site and obtain signatures before leaving the courthouse, she admitted that she didn’t have her laptop and requested to complete it later. The commissioner was visibly displeased but allowed it. A week later, when the order was finally drafted, it was riddled with errors. Despite multiple requests for updates and corrections, Ms. Smoak’s office failed to provide any response, and the incorrect order was ultimately filed. After reading other reviews, it appears that this level of negligence is standard practice for this firm. If you are looking for an attorney who is prepared, responsive, and capable of handling your case properly, look elsewhere. Do not waste your time and money on representation that lacks both competence and accountability.

Emily Smoak helped me with my divorce and child custody matters. Emily is the best family law attorney I have ever met and I trust her to be looking out for the best interests of my children and I. I know she will fight hard to get the best outcome for her clients. I highly recommend her in these difficult and emotional cases.
