I would avoid this practice at all cost. Wasted almost 2 grand of a retainer for the occasional email. Needed help establishing a parenting plan. John at no point made any headway by filing with the court or assisting in anyway. After about 3 months I fired John and lost 2 grand for him sending a couple emails to a lawyer that wouldn’t respond and a couple phone calls.

John has been my lawyer for our parenting plan for the past 8 years. He's always very responsive when I call with questions or need advice. Going through mediation and trying to work out a parenting plan is always difficult and emotional, and John has always been great at being realistic in expectations and preparing me for what could happen.

John has always taken my input into consideration, and works with me to make things happen. I've had on-again/off-again custody issues, and things were pretty bleak until John got involved.
