I’m using an anonymous account for privacy, as I am in the process of taking legal action against my employer. I respectfully request that the firm not reveal my real name in any responses. It was surprising to experience how Smithey Law, an “employment” law firm, treats potential clients. I filled out an intake form on Thursday, November 21st. Within 30 minutes, Austin emailed me to confirm my state- professional and prompt communication, and I appreciated being told I was added to the list. That deserves one extra star. On Friday morning at 10:11 AM, I received a call without any prior notice while I was driving. I let the caller know I would return the call. At 10:17 AM, I missed two additional calls from the same number and received a voicemail from Rachel. I called back immediately and was told she was in a meeting and would return my call. She called again at 10:45 AM, while I had a meeting scheduled for 11:00. I explained this, and to be fair, I was offered the option to keep the call brief or reschedule. Because the process already felt disorganized and her tone came off as frustrated from the beginning, I chose to complete it quickly. The real issue, however, was how I was spoken to. When we reached the part where I could summarize my case, she insisted on simply copying and pasting what I had written in the form. If that was all she intended to do, why call me in the first place? I politely asked to add a few additional details. While I was speaking calmly and professionally, despite my voice shaking because I was discussing emotional distress and discrimination, she abruptly cut me off and said, “For the sake of time, we are moving to the next question.” At that point, I had already pushed my 11:00 meeting to 11:10, but I stayed quiet because her tone was dismissive and humiliating. I had prepared thoroughly and spoke logically. Three other firms reviewed the same documents and listened patiently; all three accepted my case, which demonstrates it has merit. Regardless of the case strength, I expect to be treated with basic respect, especially when discussing emotional distress and exclusion from work opportunities. Interrupting a client like that suggests the firm does not value or respect potential clients. Because of the lack of scheduling structure and the rude behavior I experienced, I left a two-star review and took my business elsewhere. There are many firms that handle these matters with professionalism and empathy. I hope Smithey Law will do better. I’ve attached screenshots of the calls and emails to confirm accuracy and avoid any claim that this review is fabricated. Thank you.

Smithey Law Group was extremely easy to work with, they responded quickly to my need to turn around review of an employment agreement in one day. They were responsive and flexible. I appreciate their professionalism and insights.

Reuben Wolfson is an amazing lawyer and so so helpful! He shows genuine concern and looks out for the best interest of the client, which can be really hard to find. Super happy with this firm, especially when I've been pushed back and forth between many other lawyers prior to finding Smithey Law Group!

The biggest waste of money, I would not recommend this law office. I contacted them in late 2024 and early 2025 and the fee that I paid did not in any form match the legal advice I received. I actually paid more because I wanted the expertise of Joyce, it wasn’t worth it. Appointments were frequently canceled at the last minute and follow up conversations never happened. I’d strongly suggest you hire an attorney who seems as interested in helping you as taking your money.

Reuben saw the potential in my case when several other lawyers did not. Took it to the finish line, with excellent communication along the way. Gave recommendations, but left the choice to me in how we proceeded, from the start of the action to the end of negotiating. I chose to keep pushing the negotiation. Final settlement was inline with expectations laid out during the initial consultation call. Professional all the way through.
