I’ve met with another lawyer in the past about the O1 before, so I thought I knew what to expect from my first consultation with Yao Law Group: some general info and a few minutes to ask quickfire questions. This consultation, however, was completely different. For starters, I wasn’t passed on to a junior lawyer or an assistant like I had experienced in the past - but got to speak to Elektra Yao herself. On top of this, she was very open to my (many) questions about my case, and then proceeded to generously share so much helpful and specific info that I wrote out 2 pages of notes! Her deep understanding about the laws pertaining to various creative industries meant that she has a very out-of-the-box way of strategizing, and her knowledge extends far beyond law into the nuanced territory of what makes an artist’s brand successful. I felt truly optimistic about my chances with the O1 despite my fears and worries. She didn’t sugarcoat anything and was brutally honest, but clearly also is someone who sees obstacles as opportunities to challenge herself - something I strongly relate to as a multidisciplinary artist. I left the consultation with clarity and optimism, and immediately called my assistant after the call and said “I chose the right lawyer”. I believe, if you’re serious about your art, you will find yourself feeling the same way after working with her.

Elektra was recommended to me by a friend who recently had an excellent O1 experience with her. Although I only had one consultation with her, it cleared so many of my questions and doubts! Not only does she provide a lot of information over call, but also sends you resources to go through. Prompt, responsive, and honestly really intelligent!
