12 years ago in a car accident situation, my claims to the insurance company tresspassed a fine line unintentionally which landed me in a prosecution by the state police and finally a conviction of misdemeanor. I was a bit naive, sensing which the state police coaxed me intelligently to aggree to them to plea guilty in the prosecution. Also, I was not told back then that a misdemeanor charge would be a permanent block to my immigration process. Fast forward 12 years, when the time was ripe to apply for adjustment of status through I-485, I was advised by the corporate attorney to percieve a post conviction relief (PCR) so my chances of getting I-485 approved by USCIS will improve. A PCR costs tens of thousands of dollars and has a very low probability of success. After long time when I realized the corporate attorney of the firm I am employed with, is not showing any hope of light at the end of the tunnel, for my situation, I did not regret having my time wasted but I independantly started my search for a better private lawyer who can help my immigration without taking it through an insane PCR route.
